Go ye therefore and make muffins for all nations

There was a fair in our community yesterday, and several charity groups were handing out pamphlets. One was collecting household goods that are not needed, and giving them to people in need. Another group was working hard for world peace. Very laudable aims, and you may be wondering which church group was running them. The first group was secular, the second group was a non-Christian religious group. So much of the Christian outreach I see these days consists in serving the needy in our community, and that’s great, but here is a secular group, responding to the need to be compassionate human beings, and serving the community, not in the name of Jesus, but because it’s the right thing to do. You may argue, that’s because God made people that way. Yes, that’s true, and it’s good, but what does that leave for the Christians to do?
The Great Commission has something to say about that: (Mat 28:19)  “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Mat 28:20) and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” This is what makes us Christian – we have something real and exciting to tell the world! At least let’s use muffin cases with Scripture printed on them!
As for the group working for world peace, why not work with them? Instead of having denominational groups addressing social justice issues, if we have any, let’s not re-invent the wheel, and join with others with the same aims. We may not have the same reasons for world peace as those of other faiths, but how about trying to work together?
