I’ve been thinking today about how interconnected everything is. Every relationship, every encounter, every interface between one person and another has the potential to help create a huge tapestry. It’s a bit like the roots of a fungus, – these fine hairlike hyphae, I think they’re called, spread out, and wherever they intersect with each other, they get thicker, and stronger. And it’s from these junctions that the fruiting bodies sprout. As we who follow Christ encounter other people, we can be part of making that fruitful mat, that tapestry, where the fruit produced is much greater than just the individual parts.
Why is everything together so much more fruitful? I believe that God particularly inhabits those places, and sends Holy Spirit nudges, both to give us words, and to open our eyes and our ears. Panentheism is the term that means everything is in God – the song title that I have used for this post refers to many scriptures, one of them being Isaiah 49:16.
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.
I don’t know about you, but I only write things on my hand when it is vital that I don’t forget them, like picking up medication, or paying a bill. God has us written on His hands – God will never forget us, and is always mindful of our needs.
